Charlotte Adams

Charlotte Adams has been making dances for over 20 years. She joined thedance department at The University of Iowa in 1998 and is artistic director of Charlotte Adams and Dancers. Her choreographyCharlotte Adamshas been performed throughout the U.S. by companies and university dance programs and internationally in Australia, the Caribbean, South East Asia, and southern France including Montpellier’s Festival Off and the Odyssud Theatre in Blagnac. Charlotte Adams and Dancers had its premiere performance at Joyce SoHo in 2001 and returned with a concert of new work in 2003. In January 2006 the company will make their third appearance at New York’s Joyce SoHo for a concert of new work entitled "Blind Dogs Sing of Love."

Adams received dual masters degrees from the University of Arizona and began her choreographic career in Tucson as a founding member of Tenth Street Danceworks, a contemporary repertory company. She received numerous grants from Arizona granting agencies for choreography and was awarded the $25,000 Arizona Arts Award in 1993. More recent choreographic honors include the selection of "Imagining Ketchikan" for New York’s Joyce SoHo Presents 2000, the selection of "The Poetry of Physics" for the National American College Dance Festival 2000, and "The Dichotomy of Desire" for the central region American College Dance Festival 2002. At the University of Iowa Adams specializes in teaching dance kinesiology, Pilates, yoga, modern technique, and choreography. Since 1998, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at The University of Iowa has awarded Adams over $35,000 for collaborative performance projects. Of particular note are "ROMPE!" Dance and Music of the Americas with flutist Tadeu Coelho and choreographer Armando Duarte, "The Poetry of Physics", a concert of original work by Adams, and "Blind Dogs Sing of Love", a concert of work created in collaboration with UI faculty, dancers, and alums.
