Youth Ballet News and Announcements

Spring 2008 Concert Photos are now available for view and ordering. Please call the office @335-2193 for more information.

For those that ordered Spring Concert DVDs: these are ready and in the main Dance Dept office. You may stop by anytime from 8:00 - 11:00 and 1:00 - 5:00.  

Summer Intermediate Ballet Classes are available at these times:
Monday - Wednesday 6:45 - 8:00 Gray
Tuesday- Thursday 5:00 - 6:30  Gray
Saturday 11:30 - 1:00 Gray

Fall Brochure will be ready by August 8th!  Fall Classes will begin on August 25th.

Classes are $12.50 a single class 10 Class Punch cards are available in the main Dance Dept. office for $120.00

Dance Forum UI Youth Ballet Fall 2008 Announcements :

The University of Iowa Department of Dance announces the appointment of Eleanor Goudie-Averill as coordinator of Dance Forum’s UI Youth Ballet. Ms. Goudie-Averill comes to the UI Youth Ballet with an extensive teaching history. She has worked with young dancers in both community and conservatory programs, and her professional performing and choreographic experiences encompass a wide range of classical and contemporary styles. Ms. Goudie –Averill received her MFA from the University of Iowa Department of Dance, where she taught beginning, continuing and intermediate level ballet classes, and for the UI Arts Share Summer Program. She was subsequently appointed as a Visiting Professor of Ballet and Pointe/Variations at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. Ellie is currently living in New York City where she teaches ballet at the prestigious Little Red School House in Greenwich Village, and where she recently performed in a production of Daphnis and Chloe at the renowned Dance Theater Workshop.

In the Fall of 2008, the Dance Forum-UI Youth Ballet will enjoy the advantage of having master classes taught by some of the following guest artists of the University of Iowa Department of Dance:

Thaddeus Davis: Atlanta Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Complexions, and Donald Byrd/The Group.
Tanya Wideman-Davis: Dance Theatre of Harlem, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Alonzo King’s Lines Contemporary Ballet
Gina Patterson: Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Ballet Austin
And Leslie Peck on behalf of the George Balanchine Trust.

For our Winter 2008 concert, Ms. Goudie- Averill will direct the ballet, The Snow Queen. The Snow Queen is a ballet derived from the classic fairy tale written by Hans Christian Anderson. This ballet will encompass dancers of all abilities.
