Dancers in Company

Sat, Feb 25, 2017 - 8:00pm
Space Place Theater

Presented by the Department of Dance

The University of Iowa’s premiere touring dance company, Dancers in Company, bursts onto campus with their hugely popular home concert. Now in its 33rd year, the company will present works by nationally- and internationally-active faculty and guest choreographers created around the theme of “home.”

Using dance to investigate personal, local, and global issues relating to home, UI Dance students will perform a thrilling and diverse concert featuring the following works:

Here Comes the Sun
Choreography by Charlotte Adams, in collaboration with Emily McElwain and Kristen Vasilakos
Here Comes the Sun looks at the friendship of two women and the close ties that remain through time. The work conjures a past era that speaks to the present; the comfort of knowing someone for a lifetime, the shared joys, and hardships that evoke a spiritual home.

The Dark
Choreography by Jessica Anthony, in collaboration with the dancers
This work wonders about the role of the dark and the mysteries, fears, and possibilities it holds.

Excerpts from You Are Here
Choreography by Jane Comfort and Company
These are excerpts from a full evening piece, which Jane Comfort and Company premiered in 2016 in New York City.

El mismo sol para todos
Directed and choreographed by Armando Duarte, in collaboration with the dancers

The Broken Brick Road…Home
Choreography by Christopher-Rasheem McMillan, in collaboration with the DIC Company
This work is a postmodern interpretation of the themes from The Wizard of Oz.

in the air/to the bone
Choreography by Melinda Jean Myers, in collaboration with the dancers

This production contains adult language and the use of theatrical haze.
