Earn your BA in Dance

A liberal arts degree that combines rigorous studio curriculum with multiple academic disciplines, giving you a depth of knowledge in dance that is connected to other humanistic endeavors.

The Bachelor of Arts in Dance degree encompasses technical and creative practice, body sciences, theoretical studies in dance, and other areas of inquiry.

The BA in Dance requires a minimum of 120 semester hours, including at least 58 semester hours of work for the major. No more than 61 semester hours in the Department of Dance courses may be counted toward the 120 semester hours required for the BA.

The program is designed for students who want to acquire a strong liberal arts and sciences background while pursuing a comprehensive undergraduate dance education. The degree stresses performance and choreography, as well as courses in dance theory, dance history, dance kinesiology, and dance production.

Prospective students must submit the dance supplemental application and either submit video (on the application) or attend a Hawkeye Dance Day for technique placement and scholarship consideration.
