Learn by doing. Learn by dancing.

Experiential learning is "learning by doing" and by reflecting on your experience. In Iowa Dance, experiential learning activities include performances, the Arts Living-Learning Community, conducting research with a professor, teaching dance, and internships, among other possibilities.

Performance opportunities

As a dance major, you'll have many opportunities to perform and choreograph, including:

  • UI Dance Company (our touring company)
  • The annual Dance Gala on the Hancher stage
  • Faculty and student concerts in Space Place Theater
  • MFA thesis concerts
  • The School of Music Opera Theatre
  • Musical theatre
  • Community performances
  • Participation in Gala Festival Concerts of the American College Dance Festival Association

Living-learning communities

The Arts Living-Learning Community is a residence hall floor for first- and second-year students who are interested in the visual, creative, and performing arts. This community welcomes dance majors.
