Bea Beaman
Bea Beaman (they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist from Shanghai, China. They received their BA in Dance from St. Olaf College and are now a second-year MFA student on the Choreography track. Though their background is primarily in K-Pop and popular dance forms, Bea’s research now focuses on partnering and improvisation. They have received training from Pilobolus Dance Theater, Black Label Movement, and Vim Vigor Dance Company.
Their expertise in music production and digital media has strongly impacted their choreographic process. They often create their own soundtrack and lighting for their choreographic work, as well as support their peers in their creative visions.
Bea is curious about creating collaborative, generative systems of choreography with high potential for error, leaning into unexpected results. By cultivating an egalitarian and service-centered rehearsal space, they aim to create environments where ideas flow freely – finding interesting intersections and clashes that can spark inspiration.
